Hillary Clinton became the latest to denounce Barr’s testimony on the handling of the Mueller report amid calls for his resignation
The US attorney general, William Barr, has rebuffed a call to testify before the House judiciary committee on Thursday, escalating a running battle with congressional Democrats over his handling of the Mueller report amid rising calls for his resignation.
The justice department said that Barr was withdrawing his participation in protest at the decision of the committee’s Democratic chairman, Jerrold Nadler, to allow a staff counsel to question him alongside members. But the move is likely to expose Barr to accusations that he is trying to avoid accountability over his role in the release of the Mueller report into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.
