Tim Dowling: the cat’s looking at me funny, and now the tortoise hates me, too

It’s easy to read too much into a tortoise’s expression, but there does seem to be a bottomless resentment in his eyes

My wife hates the cat fountain I bought. She hates the idea of it, and the colour, and the way it gurgles when you plug it in.

“It’s the quietest one they make,” I say.
